Cochin International Airport

Cochin International Airport is the busiest and largest airport in Kerala, located at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district, about 25 km northeast of Kochi city centre. Operating under the code COK, it was inaugurated on 25 May 1999 and became the first airport in India to be developed through a public-private partnership model, funded by contributions from thousands of non-resident Keralites across the globe. Today it stands as one of the busiest airports in the country, handling a significant share of international air traffic to and from the state.

Cochin International Airport is globally recognized as the world's first fully solar-powered airport, a distinction it earned in 2015 after commissioning a dedicated solar power plant on its premises. This pioneering achievement in sustainable aviation earned the airport the United Nations "Champion of the Earth" award in 2018, cementing its reputation as a leader in eco-friendly infrastructure. The terminal buildings are designed in traditional Kerala architectural style, giving arriving and departing passengers a warm cultural welcome.

The airport is equipped with three passenger terminals, two catering to domestic and international operations and one dedicated to general aviation, along with a dedicated cargo terminal. It connects Kochi with numerous domestic cities and international destinations across the Gulf, Southeast Asia, and beyond, making it a vital gateway for tourists, business travellers, and the large expatriate community from Kerala.

Located in Ernakulam district at Keralam 683111, Cochin International Airport continues to serve as a critical transport hub supporting trade, tourism, and connectivity for the entire state.
