IMA Blood Bank Complex & Research Centre Thrissur

IMA Blood Bank Complex & Research Centre Thrissur is a well-known blood bank in Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur, Kerala. It was planned as a modern, dependable source of safe blood for the region. The centre is a joint project of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Thrissur branch and the Thrissur District Panchayat, developed under the People's Plan Programme. It is run by an experienced group of local doctors through Janakeeya Samithy (Arogyam), a society registered under the Charitable Societies Act.

The complex is built as a full transfusion institute rather than a simple storage unit. Its facilities include blood component separation, transfusion wards, and exhibition and library spaces for public awareness and learning. Component separation lets one donation help several patients, since red cells, platelets and plasma can be issued separately as needed. The centre serves Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts, and its work supports patients across Kerala.

Getting blood here is simple. Families need a doctor's prescription and a properly labelled blood sample in a plain tube and an EDTA tube, delivered to the centre at Ramavarmapuram. Depending on the component, processing usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. Patients can also call ahead to book a component, and if it is available it is issued without insisting on a replacement donor, against fixed testing charges. Rare blood groups can occasionally run short, so it is wise to confirm availability by phone before visiting.

The centre promotes voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation and organises blood drives to keep stocks healthy. Anyone in good health who wishes to donate can contact the centre to learn about eligibility and donation schedules. For blood banks in Thrissur, Kerala, this centre is a trusted choice for hospitals, patients and donors. Visit it at Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur, Keralam 680631.
