Description:

Thiruvambady SreeKrishna Temple Patturaikkal is a revered Hindu shrine located on Shornur Road in Patturaikkal, Thrissur, Kerala, standing among the most significant temples in the city famously known as the Temple City of Kerala. Managed by the Thiruvambady Devaswom, this ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, worshipped here in his childlike form as Unnikrishnan, along with Goddess Bhagavathy, whose shrine sits beside the main deity and is honoured with equal devotion. The temple's roots trace back several centuries, with the original idol believed to have been brought from a shrine in Edakkalathur, a village not far from present-day Thrissur.

Within the temple premises, devotees can also offer prayers to Lord Ganapathy and Dharma Shastha, whose shrines are located just outside the main sanctum. The structure itself reflects classic Kerala temple architecture, rebuilt in its current form during the era of Sakthan Thampuran. A distinctive feature of this temple is its gold-plated flagstaff, a rare honour among Thrissur's temples, and the daily rituals here follow a rich and traditional schedule, beginning with the ceremonial Vakacharthu, the sacred oil bath of the deity, performed in the early hours of the morning.

Thiruvambady SreeKrishna Temple Patturaikkal holds a special place in Kerala's cultural calendar as one of the two principal participants in the world-famous Thrissur Pooram festival, alongside Paramekkavu Temple. The grand procession known as Madathil Varavu begins from this very temple, marking the ceremonial start of the celebrations. Beyond Pooram, the temple observes numerous festivals through the year, including a vibrant celebration of Sree Krishna Jayanthi, drawing devotees from across the region for elaborate rituals and cultural programs.

Devotees visiting Thiruvambady SreeKrishna Temple Patturaikkal are expected to follow the traditional dress code observed at Kerala temples, and photography is generally restricted inside the premises. The temple remains easily accessible, being close to Poonkunnam Railway Station and well connected by road within Thrissur city. With its deep spiritual significance, architectural charm, and central role in local festivities, this temple continues to be a cherished place of worship and heritage for the people of Thrissur.
