Willingdon Island

Willingdon Island is one of the most distinctive landmarks in Kochi, Kerala, and a well-known island in Ernakulam district. The island is widely recognised as the largest man-made island in India. It was created in the early 20th century from earth dredged while deepening the harbour for the Cochin Port. It was named after Lord Willingdon, the British Viceroy of India at the time, and it continues to play an important role in the city’s maritime and commercial life.
