Description:

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Pazhavangadi is a well-known Ganapathy shrine located in the historic Pazhavangadi locality of East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the temple stands close to the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and is one of the most visited pilgrim spots in the heart of the city. The presiding deity is worshipped in a distinctive seated posture with the right leg folded, a form rarely seen in other Ganesha temples across Kerala.

The origins of this shrine trace back to the era of the Travancore Kingdom, when soldiers of the Nair Brigade stationed at the fort discovered the idol and began worshipping it for protection and courage. When the capital shifted to Thiruvananthapuram, the idol was moved along with the garrison, and the present temple structure was rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Even today, the shrine continues to be maintained under military tradition, a rare distinction among temples in the region.

Devotees visiting this temple believe that offering coconuts to Lord Ganesha here helps remove obstacles and bring good fortune into their lives. The temple complex also houses shrines of other deities including Durga, Dharmasastha and Nagaraja, making it a complete spiritual stop for pilgrims. Its location near the railway station and the main Padmanabhaswamy Temple makes it easily accessible for both local residents and tourists exploring Trivandrum.

With its traditional Kerala-style architecture, carved wooden pillars and sloping tiled roofs, the temple reflects the artistic heritage of old Travancore. Its central location, spiritual significance and unique history make Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Pazhavangadi an important religious landmark for anyone visiting Thiruvananthapuram in search of blessings, culture and peace.
